TUCO competitions 2019

The University Caterers Organisation (TUCO) hosts annual skills competitions where a variety of Higher Education Institutions compete against each other in a wide range of activities.

The competitions were held on 26th & 27th March 2019 at the University of Warwick.

We had three members of staff take part in two different categories.

Congratulations goes to Catering Assistant Tracy Murray and Hospitality Chef Jayne Dawson for being recognised at the TUCO competitions in the Salon Culinaire Coffee Shop Style Sponge Cake category.

Tracy, who competed for the first time, received a Silver Award for her delicately light and tasty plum, pistachio and green matcha tea sponge cake. (Pictured: Right).

Jayne received a Merit Award for her eye-catching and delicious raspberry, coconut and lemon sponge cake. (Pictured: Left).

No gold award was awarded in this category, meaning Tracy received one of the highest awards! Well done both.

A special mention goes to Manolis Pagkalos for taking part in TUCO’s Barista Skills Challenge for the very first time. His challenge was to compete in a live 15-minute competition and produce; four espressos, four cappuccinos and finally four espresso-based, non-alcoholic speciality drinks.

Though it wasn’t a win this time for him, Manolis already hopes he will be able to compete again next year.
