Best Way To Pay on Campus

UPAY is the quick payment system used across campus that enables staff and students to pay for their food, drink and retail purchases. The only requirement is that you are either a staff member or a student studying at the University of Leicester.

Why is UPAY so great?

Set auto top-ups, so you never go below a limit you set or top up on the go as you go. Your top-up would be updated within a few minutes for you to use and you will get a confirmation receipt via email.

Reduce queuing and payment times in our catering and retail outlets* by scanning your app’s unique QR code at till point or tap and go with your University staff/student ID card and make contactless payments.

See outlets offers and promotions first via the UPAY app. The UPAY app is compatible with Android and iOS devices.

Receive live account balances, see accrued loyalty points and detailed statements right on the app.

I want to be part of this community, how do I sign up?

Step 1: Opt in by clicking this link on a University Computer only.
This is so you can be automatically recognised on the University network and your staff/student ID card can automatically link. We will explain further down in the step-by-step, don’t worry!

You will see a personalised opt-in message. You must click ‘I agree’ to our terms and conditions, if you wish to sign up to UPAY and for your account to be created.
This will take a few hours to link.

Step 2: You can then download the UPAY app from the app store on any Android or iOS mobile device.


Step 3: You will receive a welcome to UPAY email. You will need to click the link within the email or visit from either your mobile device or desktop web browser and sign in with your University username (for example: abc123) and university password.

Step 4: Once logged in, you will be prompted to ‘Load the UPAY app’ if on a mobile device (make sure you have already downloaded the app) or ‘Load the UPAY website’ if on a desktop computer.

This will then open your UPAY account either on the app or web browser. You can now top-up your account and use your mobile device to pay for purchases in any of our catering and retail outlets on campus and gain 5% back in loyalty value for each £1 you spend.

You now also have the capability to make contactless payments automatically using your student/staff ID card. No set up required!

Living in catered accommodation? To access your funds, follow these steps.

Step 1: You need to download the UPAY app, then from your mobile web browser, visit:
This should then take you to a University login page, which you will need your university username (abc123) and university password to login.

Step 2: Once logged in, you will be prompted to ‘Load the UPAY app’ or ‘Load the UPAY website. Before this point, please ensure you have downloaded the app.

Step 3: Click on ‘Load the UPAY app’ and this will open up the app where you can use your mobile device to pay for purchases in any of our catering and retail outlets on campus and gain 5% back in loyalty value for each £1 you spend.

The balance will be displayed under ‘MEAL PLAN’.

If you’ve run out of funds, you can always top-up and the balance will be displayed at the top.
